Absolum is a 2D side scroller that enthralled beat’em up fans and roguelite fans alike when it was released in fall of 2025. Set in the world of Talamh after a magical cataclysmic event, players will work to dethrone the tyrannical Sun King and his lackeys in the Crimson Order.
There are four distinct heroes to choose from, and each run offers everything diverging paths and unique abilities to find, making each adventure feel like a new experiment with different synergies.
Absolum’s beat ‘em up style makes a lot of sense when you consider one of the game’s developers, Guard Crush Games, were also co-developer of Streets of Rage 4. With that history in mind, it’s not surprising that many reviews praised the game’s combat experience, but that isn’t the only area in which Absolum shines.
With excellent worldbuilding, an addictive roguelite loop, and gorgeous cartoon art style, Absolum was certainly a welcome surprise when it dropped in 2025.
