20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed

8. Creatures

https://youtu.be/qugLJjEmDzc In the midst of the monster mania instigated by Pokemon, quite a few monster raising games were released (many of which had franchises predating Pokemon). While quite a few of these games tried to copy the Pokemon formula, others injected their own originality into the genre. The Creatures series had been a available on PC€™s since the mid nineties, but made it€™s console appearance in 2001. Creatures is an artificial life simulator. The whole game centers around raising small aliens called Norns. You teach them, defend them, and help them explorer their environment. The Norns grow from a newborn state into an elderly state, and pass away after some time. The Norns breed together too, and have a special €œDNA" feature that keeps traits among offspring. Since it€™s a simulator, there is no ending, and no winning. Instead, it goes on indefinitely similar to games like Monster Rancher/Farm or Seaman. Creatures isn€™t perfect. Being a PC port, it has some features trimmed and others cut due to ram limitations on the PS1 compared to home computers of the time. Still, it€™s an extremely unique game for the PS1. It's different from any other PC release as well. Though its not on PS Store, the game is inexpensive, used or new.
