10. Dominic Or Dominique?
The development of Gears of War was ever-evolving. Still, one of the most notable concepts could have changed Dom becoming 'Dominique'.
Fergusson suggested to Cliff in early development that Gears of War could give players the choice between having a male or female Santiago. The team scrapped the decision, however, when considering the technical hurdle writing double the dialogue. Tackling the emotionally-heavy plot of Dom searching for his wife, Maria, also proved difficult fitting around this system.
Dom wasn't the only person who could have had a gender swap. Former Delta Squad leader Minh Young Kim was written initially as a female character. In the end, it wouldn't be until the third game where players could play as female characters like Anya Stroud or Samantha Byrne.
