20 Things You Didn't Know About Rocket League
9. The Game's Servers Couldn't Handle The Player Load On Launch
So unexpected was Rocket League's success right out of the gate that the game's servers simply couldn't handle the massive player load.
Largely thanks to the game being part of Sony's Instant Game Collection, Psyonix were inundated with 183,000 unique players in the first week of release alone, hammering their servers into the ground and forcing the team to get to work making the game accommodate such a high volume of players.
If you played Rocket League during release week, you might remember just how laggy and inconsistent online play was.
Though poor netcode has been the fatal flaw of so many promising online games, thankfully Psyonix got their fixes in quickly, ensuring most players weren't turned off by the early teething problems.
