20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was heavily criticised for its over-the-top action, which should've compelled its long-time competitor, Battlefield, to maintain its grounded approach.

Ironically, Battlefield V made the exact same mistake. When the trailer dropped, the project was immediately accused of historical inaccuracy. Complaints were directed towards the futuristic weapons and body art, which didn't match the time period. One of the primary soldiers brandished a heavily advanced prosthetic arm, despite the fact the story was set in the 1940s. Although Battlefield was no stranger to creative liberties, it felt like this instalment was favouring spectacle over plausibility. Coupled with the fast-paced action and flamboyant cosmetics, Battlefield V wasn't maintaining the spirit of the franchise.

The backlash grew beyond the footage, with the fanbase claiming that EA and DICE were ignoring player feedback. One of the developer's said "if you don't like it, don't buy it," pouring fuel on an already swelling controversy.

Battlefield V was dubbed a failure despite selling over seven million units, encouraging EA to terminate support for the game less than two years after it launched.
