20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games
16. Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Dragon Age went into a hiatus for a decade after Inquisition, so there was plenty of buzz surrounding the rumoured fourth instalment for years.
But when the trailer for The Veilguard debuted at the Xbox Games Showcase, the common consensus was that BioWare's latest entry was Dragon Age in name only. The animation was overly colourful and cartoonish, giving off Fortnite/Overwatch vibes. Rather than keeping with the gritty tone, the trailer made The Veilguard resemble a heist adventure, akin to Ocean's Eleven.
Although it seems unfair to judge a game before playing it, the developers weren't a fan of the reveal either, saying it hugely misrepresented their work. Due to the tonal inconsistency, deviation from Dragon Age's origins (pun intended), and negative feedback from the creators, the trailer racked up a high number of dislikes on platforms like YouTube and Reddit.
Two months after its release, EA stated Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn't reach its sales quota. Despite winning multiple gaming awards and initially topping the sellers chart on Steam, the negativity towards The Veilguard ran far too deeply to recover.
