20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games
14. Babylon's Fall
Square Enix and PlatinumGames had overwhelming confidence in Babylon's Fall, making its failure more apparent.
When revealed at E3 2021, the creators explained how the action RPG would be a live-service model, with a huge focus on multiplayer. Babylon's Fall was expected to have free updates, including new gameplay modes and content. Although it was delayed by three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this gave the developers more time to fine-tune their creation to perfection.
Regardless of all the forced hype, the public simply wasn't buying Babylon's Fall, figuratively or literally. Rather than singling out one specific problem, the promotional videos were bland across the board. Due to the odd artistic filters, stiff gameplay, and awkward voiceovers, the trailers were an early sign Square Enix and PlatinumGames wouldn't deliver what they promised.
Sure enough, Babylon's Fall is regarded as among the worst games associated with either studio, primarily because of the repetitive gameplay loop, technical performances, and weak storytelling.
Concurrent players on Steam never reached 1,200, and dropped to a single player within two months. Despite being promoted as the be-all-and-end-all, Babylon's Fall was shut down less than a year after it debuted.
