20 Underrated Hidden Gaming Gems Of The Current Generation You Need To Play

9. Headlander

Double Fine

Developers Double Fine have always been as reliable as head-honcho Tim Schafer is inventive, and although they've had a number of really cool projects this gen - Massive Chalice and Broken Age being two - Headlander takes the cake as a glorious hybrid of Super Metroid-style item-based progression and side-on shooting.

Where the developer always excel is in pure world design, and for Headlander that means you're slap-bang in the middle of a hybrid between 1960s spy thriller psychedelia and new-age laser-blasts and space suits.

Oh, and did I not mention? You play as a floating head with rocket boosters, capable of controlling whatever you land on. It's through this that you get to command everything from different ranked soldiers to tiny dogs and dancing hula girl sexbots.

Headlander is f*cking bonkers in the best possible way. The only way Double Fine could've thought up, to be honest.
