6. Phantom Blade Zero
Another day, another PS5-exclusive third-person combat title with a heavy Eastern fantasy tone. Put that aside - this game looks absolutely stunning.
With five-star graphics, ominous environments, and blistering combat mechanics, it carries an impressive level of polish that developers from China seem to take in stride. Zero really stands out from the crowd when compared to similar titles, with all eyes on it to be one of the most exciting releases in its arena next year, despite being a new IP. It’s never a bad sign when Sony actually invests in these types of games as a publisher (Lost Soul Aside being a slight exception), with this lining up to fill the slot that Stellar Blade and Black Myth: Wukong once occupied.
While its fresh-on-the-scene energy helps it rise above 2026 competitors (e.g., Nioh 3), it has no chance of matching the next entry in the Vice City saga. Releasing late in the year should give it a chance to build fanfare and possibly snag some genre-specific nominations at the awards.
