Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

To think, not long ago, Prince of Persia was one of Ubisoft’s milestone brands. Originally a cutting-edge Apple II platformer, creator Jordan Mechner rebooted the franchise during the PS2/Xbox era with Sands of Time, a vibrant, enthralling adventure game that somersaulted 3D platforming into the modern age to the extent that its mechanics are still very much felt.

Since then, the franchise has dipped and dived, with a bizarre nu-metal phase and countless reboots that didn’t resonate (despite some strong quality), but most importantly, the IP was sidelined as a priority for the publisher once Assassin’s Creed came on the scene.

So, making a straightforward remake of Sands seemed like a simple task and was met with a warm reception. The original still holds up incredibly well but needs a little polish for modern gamers.

But it has been an absolute struggle to complete, for reasons that elude the public. Announced in 2020, it has seen multiple delays and studio swaps, with things supposedly on track for a 2026 release.

If the product emerges decent, it deserves a fighting chance, so it really can’t be anywhere near GTA. At this point, why not just delay it for yet another year?
