20 Upcoming Games YOU NEED To Know About

8. The Last Caretaker

There’s definitely an emerging theme in new games, with humanity either in mortal jeopardy, abandoning Earth or wiped out altogether featuring as a storyline in a large number of coming releases - but maybe it isn’t difficult to understand why. Nevertheless, we like an apocalypse as much as the next gamer, and if we can get stuck in and maybe save humanity without leaving the sofa then all the better.

The Last Caretaker is just what the climate scientist ordered when it comes to this, as Channel37’s first-person RPG makes us the ghost in a reawakened machine whose mission it is to save humanity from a dying planet. But not, y’know, save the planet itself.

Interstellar meets Wall-E, Last Caretaker gives us the option to craft tools and weapons from salvaged tech while making our way through a dangerous ocean world, rooting through forgotten facilities to find the genetic seeds of humanity, incubate them, grow them and launch them towards the habitable planet. But don’t worry, this ain’t Animal Crossing: there will be guns, rogue tech and all manner of other surprises to keep the action up throughout.

Early access for the PC will be later this year, with an Xbox Series X release and PlayStation 5 release date in 2026.
