Halloween: The Game
Illfonic

Even accepting the huge fanbase of the Halloween movies, last year's announcement of a new asymmetrical multiplayer game based on the IP was met with muted-at-best enthusiasm.

This is largely because the conveyor-belt of multiplayer games based on classic horror franchises like Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator, Evil Dead, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space has basically run its course.

The subgenre's formula, where players control either the supped-up killer or their hapless victims, feels extremely tired in 2026, and with the lack of real innovation between these games, most of them feel dangerously close to slapdash re-skins.

Interest in these types of games is therefore declining, ensuring that Halloween's inevitably small player-base will likely fall off a cliff within a few short weeks of release.

And even though developer IllFonic promises added value by way of a single-player campaign, it's easy to be skeptical about it.

As awesome as Halloween is, all but the most die-hard horror fans are pretty much over these excessively samey multiplayer games based on beloved franchises. Expect it to come and go in a blink.
