20 Upcoming Video Games Absolutely NOBODY Wants
13. 4:Loop
4:Loop is a roguelike co-op shooter from filmmaker J.J. Abrams and his outfit Bad Robot Games, in which players form a squad to fight back an alien invasion and destroy their mothership.
Because players are able to be "reprinted" every time they die, death is just another opportunity to learn, adapt, and finally bring the alien threat to its knees.
As intriguing as it is to see Abrams get more involved in video games, absolutely nothing about 4:Loop's reveal suggests it to be anything more than another generic nothing-burger of a co-op shooter.
Everything about it, from its drab aesthetics to its corny trailer dialogue, feels like it was focus-tested to appeal as broadly as possible, all while lacking much soul or personality.
Any game trying to thrive in the live-service space these days needs to have an immensely original hook and attention-grabbing art-style, and this sadly has neither. Expect it to be another dead-on-arrival co-op shooter.
