4. Jailers - Dark Souls III

Let's face it, like Fallout, Dark Souls' bestiary could have filled out this list all on their own. But when it comes down to it, the Jailers from Dark Souls III are perhaps the most devious and downright infuriating of them all.

Found within the bowels of the Irithyll Dungeon, these lanky, masked guards don't seem particularly threatening on a first glance - especially when compared to the other horrors found in the nearby area - but once they spot you and give chase, the real fun begins.

The Jailer's signature move is to shave your health bar down to a measly 1 HP, meaning they're a true touch-of-death enemy. Running away from them will make your health bar return to normal but the often tight corridors of the dungeon, coupled with their tendency to attack as a group can see players finding themselves backed into a corner with little-to-no chance of survival.

In a general fight, they're fairly easy to take down, but the constant threat of a dwindling health-bar will make even the most seasoned Souls veteran question whether or not it's worth the bother. Best to try and sneak around them and find the dungeon's exist as soon as possible.
