20 Video Game Enemies Designed To RUIN Your Day

3. Poison Headcrabs - Half-Life 2

Poison Headcrabs - Half Life 2
Valve

You'd have thought that a being is grotesque and terrifying as Half Life's Headcrabs couldn't get any worse, but leave it to the good folks at Valve to out-do themselves with the Poison Headcrab.

They're your every day garden variety of Headcrab - but much, much worse.

They love to hide in the darkest, dankest corners of the map and scurry out to scare you silly. They are slower than their non-poisonous counter-parts but they have a tendency to surprise attack you which can catch players off-guard. Their bites will not kill the player, instead it weakens them, making their health trickle down to critical levels, meaning you'll be easy pickings for any other enemies that may be lurking around.

Similarly to their paler brethren, they're capable of latching onto humans and turning them into mind-controlled zombies. In some instances multiple Poison Headcrabs will infect the same host, and use them as a springboard to launch themselves at you. Your encounters with these creatures aren't too common but anyone who is familiar with Half-Life 2 will dread coming across them as their ability to reduce your health to such measly levels ramps the challenge up significantly.
