Completing the Year of Dreams triumvirate now, we have The Last Guardian - Team Ico's long-awaited follow-up to all-timer action-adventure game Shadow of the Colossus.

Sony initially announced The Last Guardian at E3 2009 with the expectation that it would release for the PS3 in 2011.

However, development suffered catastrophic delays, further complicated by both director Fumito Ueda leaving Sony and forming his own studio, GenDesign, and the decision to shift development to the soon-to-release PS4.

Word went quiet enough in the years that followed that many believed The Last Guardian to be vaporware.

But at E3 2015, Sony unexpectedly reintroduced the game, providing the first substantial gameplay footage in six years, before confirming that it was on track for a 2016 drop.

Though The Last Guardian received yet another delay, it did finally release in December 2016 to mostly positive reviews, even though it was a commercial disappointment and failed to make the same cultural dent that its predecessor did.
