11. In From the Cold (Batman: Arkham Knight)
If you were to walk into the supervillain motivation Hall of Fame, you'd probably find a whole wing dedicated to the iconic Batman antagonist, Mr Freeze, and his attempts to save the life of his terminally ill, cryogenically frozen wife, Nora. This motivation has led to a shedload of emotional stories, with Rocksteady's Arkham games putting an incredible spin on it.
It was Batman: Arkham Knight's Season of Infamy DLC that finally brought their story to an end in the most heartbreaking, yet perfect, way possible.
"In From The Cold" tasks Batman with rescuing Nora Fries after The Melita steals her from Freeze's ship. However, after Nora is awoken from her sleep, she pleads with her husband not to put her back under, deciding that she would rather live her final days instead. Victor's reluctance to let her go, alongside all the havoc he has wrought in his attempts to save her, makes this decision all the more poignant.
The mission ends in a beautiful tragedy as Nora and Victor choose to spend their last days together, accepting that there is no time to cure her. You'd need to have a cold, cold heart not to feel the emotion in this moment.
