20 Video Game Villains That SHOULDN'T Have Died

4. Jul 'Mdama - Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5 didn't mark the first time that the franchise offed an interesting villain prematurely, but it is perhaps the most egregious example of the series not knowing what it had with a compelling antagonist before shuffling them off their mortal coil.

Yes, we're talking about Supreme Commander Jul 'Mdama, the Elite foe who first rocked up in novel Halo: Glasslands, appeared in-game in Halo 4's Spartan Ops campaign, and got his fully-fledged bad guy coming-out party in Halo 5: Guardians.

Everything we knew of Jul 'Mdama up to this point suggested he'd be a seriously smart and dangerous thorn in the side of the game's protagonist, Spartan Locke, only for the guy to get taken out by Locke right at the start of the campaign in a damn cutscene.

You can argue it's an act of artistic subversion to build up this Covenant successor so thoroughly only to make him look like a minimum wage mall cop, but when it pisses off a large chunk of the fanbase, is it even remotely worth it?
