20 Video Game Villains You Never Realised Got The Last Laugh
12. Wendigos - Until Dawn
Unlike The Devil In Me, Until Dawn, the first Supermassive Games interactive horror, is focused around more supernatural threats. The game’s main antagonists are the Wendigos, humans transformed into ravenous monsters by consuming human flesh.
Throughout the game, you do everything you can to survive your many encounters with Wendigos, trying your hardest to keep everyone alive. Your constant battle with surprise QTEs and poor decision-making skills seems to finally pay off in the finale, where the survivors manage to blow up all of the pursuing monsters by setting up an explosion in the cabin.
Except, if you get the game’s true ending, you kind of realize every ending leads to the Wendigos winning in some way.
If you manage to save everyone, including Josh, the brother of the twins who were turned into Wendigos, the monsters will kidnap him, and in the ending, you will see Josh has been transformed into a Wendigo too, continuing the curse after the original man-eaters are dead.
This means that you can either lose to the Wendigos by not managing to save everyone, or you lose by letting one of the survivors become the new monster.
No one said there would be happy endings.
