20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation
3. Final Fantasy VII
While it may be a bit of an eyesore today, Final Fantasy VII has aged incredibly well in every other way. It's one of the most cohesive, complete JRPGs to ever be released. From its beginnings in the rough urban slums of Midgar to its epic conclusion in a meteor crater; everything about the game was crafted with absolute precision. Thanks to the extra storage capacity of the CD, Squaresoft were able to create a massive, sprawling JRPG that spanned 3 discs and featured over 90 minutes of cut-scenes that effectively accentuated the game's most dramatic plot points. Final Fantasy VII introduced a generation to the JRPG and it remains to be one of the best examples of the genre 17 years after its initial release. It sent the popularity of the PlayStation to new heights, enhancing its reputation as a new, exciting console with a library of innovative, cinematic games that couldn't be played anywhere else.
