A unique and powerful narrative on psychosis that is set in the 8th century, Hellblade positions gamers as Senua, a Pict warrior.

By blending the mental illness with Norse and Celtic mythology, the game explores Senua's struggle with psychosis as she (understandably) mistakenly attributes the mental state to a curse that she must overcome.

She is on a quest to save the soul of her dead lover, Dillion, and in the midst of trying to challenge the goddess Hela, Senua is dually combating the influences of her curse, that come in the form of voices, hallucinations and an entity known as the "Darkness".

Not many games explore real world issues with such artistic merit while also depicting a mental illness in an accessible way. Those that don't suffer from the same mental challenges are given a glimpse, through Senua, of what those who do have psychosis may go through. For this reason alone, Hellblade is a narrative gamers shouldn't miss out on.
