Indie title Inscryption from developer Daniel Mullins is a unique experience to say the least. It initially appears to be some kind of spooky supernatural card game, in which you play against a mysterious person called Leshy while being trapped in a dark, spooky cabin. Acting as the narrator, Leshy leads you through a series of challenges in which you have to collect cards, building a stronger deck in order to try and defeat him.

In isolation, this premise is already weird enough, but in reality, things are only just getting started. It's quickly established that the spooky card game is not actually Inscryption at all. It's all part of an illusion Leshy has created, tricking you into thinking this was it. The real Inscryption is on a much larger scale, with a completely different visual style and story. It turns out Leshy is vying for control of the in-game universe with 3 other 'Scrybes', and this card game was part of his illusion.

Inscryption's wider story focuses on one of the other Scrybes known as P03, who believes he's figured out a way to actually escape Inscryption itself, which is revealed to be a video game within the game's larger universe. It's a bizarre series of events that somehow manages to hold itself together, and that's probably why the title became such a cult classic, with a premise and set of mechanics that won't be forgotten any time soon.
