20 Video Games That Mock You For Failing The Tutorial

Baldur’s Gate 3’s tutorial starts off on a strong note, with your character escaping a mind flayer nautiloid as it is in the middle of being besieged by devils.

The final stage of the tutorial features a timed sequence where you have to reach the ship’s control panel as two powerful enemies, a cambion commander and a mind flayer, are locked in combat with each other.

The game gives you plenty of time to simply rush towards the panel and leave the two bosses alone. However, if you stick around and fight them and then somehow survive taking on a cambion and a mind flayer, you might actually get the timer to run out.

Now, in true Baldur’s Gate 3 fashion, you might expect that failing to reach the objective in time would lead to some unique game-over cutscene, but the game actually has something arguably more interesting (and humiliating in store).

The moment the timer runs out, the entire ship is suddenly hit by dozens of explosions, covering the whole battlefield in fire and insta-killing your whole squad with their shrills of agony in the background.

Considering it’s actually harder to make the timer run out than finish the tutorial, this unique death feels extra painful to witness.
