20 Video Games That Punish You For Being Too Skilled

2. Exploding Gambler Daoshen - Jade Empire

Oblivion Remastered
BioWare

Jade Empire is one of the lesser-known BioWare RPGs, taking place in a fantasy kingdom based on Ancient China.

You play as a Spirit Monk embarking on a journey to destroy the encroaching undead threat, but you can also take a break from your epic quest to have fun with simpler activities like gambling with Daoshen.

Gambler Daoshen is an NPC in the Imperial Arena that allows you to play and bet on a game of dice. Since the game is entirely chance-based, there really doesn’t seem to be a way to predict whether you’ll win or lose money in a single match.

However, if you somehow manage to get the ultimate luck (either by save scumming or being really good at statistics), the game will punish you for your unnaturally good streak.

After twenty victories against Daoshen in a row, the game will permanently ban you from playing the game again… by blowing Daoshen up.

After the match, a cutscene will play showing the gambler violently bursting into a cloud of blood, and just like that, you’ll lose your ability to milk the man for his money.

Well, at least he went out with a bang.
