20 Video Games That Punish You For Being Too Skilled

16. Buffed Mecha Ridely - Metroid: Zero Mission

Oblivion Remastered
Nintendo

Metroid: Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid game that upscales the title's graphics, gameplay, and apparently the final boss's stats if the game catches you acting like a sweaty completionist.

Getting a 100% on a game is no easy matter, and usually video games like to reward the players who are skilled and patient enough to fully complete a game.

Not Zero Mission, however. The game will only punish you for going beyond what is expected out of an average player.

Getting 100% in Zero Mission can actually be done before you properly finish the game. However, the moment your progress counter ticks up from 99% to 100%, the game's final boss, Mecha Ridley, will have all of his stats doubled, making the fight almost impossibly difficult.

This means that if you prioritize completing the game, your dedication may cost you actually finishing it, as Mecha Ridley will turn into a final boss on steroids.

And while some may argue that this increased difficulty can technically be considered a reward for ambitious players, if someone just wanted to finish the game, unknowingly making a boss fight unbeatable hardly counts as a reward.
