20 Video Games That Punish You For Being Too Skilled

15. Stronger Sephiroth - Final Fantasy VII

Oblivion Remastered
Square Enix

In a lot of RPGs it may seem like the best way to win is to spend hours grinding EXP and making your characters stronger. This is true in Final Fantasy VII's case too, for the most part...

Until you reach Sephiroth, that is, and you realize the game was actually trolling you the entire time.

Whereas getting your characters to max level makes the game a walk in the park in pretty much every other encounter, Final Fantasy's main baddie, Sephiroth, comes with a secret buff that makes him stronger, the stronger your characters are.

For each level 99 hero you have, Sephiroth grows his HP exponentially. So much so that if you manage to get all your characters to max level, the buff will be so great that you would have an easier time fighting him with a lower-level party.

The cheat is seriously unfair, even more so considering that the game doesn't warn you about this mechanic, and every other aspect of the gameplay would suggest that you should really try to do your best.

Leave it to Sephiroth to always have some fun-ruining ace up his sleeve. The guy is a professional party pooper.
