5. Total War: Rome 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaDlihIqPws Hot off the heels of Total War: Shogun 2 and its expansions, PC strategy game developer-extraordinaire The Creative Assembly is once again creating a sequel to one of their beloved classics in Total War: Rome 2. Set for a release in late 2013, Total War: Rome 2 is one of the most anticipated PC games of next year, and given the excellence of their recent releases in the Total War series like Shogun 2 and Napoleon, there is every reason to believe that Rome 2 will meet the high expectations being placed on the game. Why it will be awesome: It's quite simple, really - Creative Assembly is a top tier development studio who makes some of the best strategy games anywhere on any platform. For the uninitiated, games in the Total War series incorporate two key elements: 1) Sid Meier's Civilization-esque world-building 2) Real time, large-scale military battles. These two elements combine for a potent cocktail of gaming goodness that simply isn't being matched by anything else out there. Rome 2 looks to make a number of improvements (far too many to list here) over the excellent Shogun 2, and a return the Classical Era should be a welcome change of pace. For those of you who have always wanted to try one of these huge PC strategy games, but may have been a bit intimidated, the Total War series has an excellent tutorial system that slowly eases you into the action while teaching you the games' complex systems, which will surely Rome 2 a great place to start in this genre. Be forewarned though - once Total War grabs you, it's hard to escape. Prepare to lose many hours of your life to some of the very best gaming that there is.
