15. Fortnite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE2TTakfGjk Epic Games is returning to their PC roots in 2013 with the PC-only title, Fortnite. Set to be one of the first games to utilize Epic's new game engine, Unreal 4, Fortnite looks to continue the trend of hybridization of game genres by breaking the day/night cycle of the game into two distinct gameplay styles - scavanging/bulilding and defending. Why it will be awesome: While much of the hype around this game's release is likely to surround its use of Unreal 4, this should by no means cloud the fact that the game itself looks incredibly fun. Sporting a cartoonish look that somewhat resembles Team Fortress 2, Fortnite will also feature cooperative gameplay. During the day, players will be exploring a sandbox-type environment, scavenging for resources and using them to fortify a central fort, something that should be familiar to players of games like Minecraft and Terraria. Once nightfall rolls around, players will have to return to their fort and defend it against hordes of night creatures. It's a unique concept that should shine in the hands of the experts over at Epic Games, and given that it will be done on their own proprietary, next-gen engine, it should be a feast for the senses as well.
