21 Best Hidden Gaming Gems Of The Decade (So Far)

4. Darksiders II

A slowly-dying producer does not a strong marketing campaign make, and as THQ slipped off the mortal coil just as developers Vigil Games put the finishing touches on another instalment in the awesome Darksiders series, they arrived to a barren wasteland of coverage behind it. As such, DS2 received a remaster on current hardware in 2015 (called the Deathinitive Edition, which might put just as many people off as a lack of money, to be honest), but it gives you the perfect opportunity to play a title that mixes a satisfying loot grind with some brilliantly-animated combat, a Legacy of Kain vibe to the lore holding it all together. Characters are massive, hulking monstrosities of muscle and demonic power, whilst your character of Death himself lives up to the legend by playing like a dream. You'll go from Prince of Persia-esque traversal and acrobatic progression, to slaying countless demons in a fireworks display of special moves, to calling upon your skeletal horse and darting off across the countryside. It's a truly awesome mishmash of genres, pulled off by a studio that were set to do great things - and hopefully still will.
