Developer SuperGiant Games are one of the most talented indie devs out there, and although 2014's Transistor told a solid tale of a mute singer searching for her voice with a talking sword (yes, really), it's Bastion and the story of 'a boy and his hammer' that'll sink its hooks in far deeper. On a pure gameplay level, Bastion plays pretty much like Diablo, in that you'll constantly be hammering buttons to keep enemies at bay, whilst occasionally charging up special moves and routinely finding new weapons to expand your arsenal. The titular Bastion itself is a hubworld that needs to be rebuilt to then grant you modifiers, weapons and items to take into the next mission, and all of that is without mentioning the sumptuous tones of voice actor Logan Cunningham; a friend of the developer who narrates the entire thing. He brings your character and his backstory to life, peppers every section of the world with interesting tales and stories, and rounds out the sound design with composer Darren Korb who assembled a reactive soundtrack that always embodies the various locales you get dropped into.
