4. Ratchet & Clank

Normally a 3D platformer wouldn't get such a high spot on a list like this, but boy are gamers in desperate need of the genre to make a return. Consider that Rare's latest kickstarter for Banjo-Kazooie spiritual-sequel Yooka-Laylee was funded in 40 minutes flat it's safe to say people are chomping at the bit to play something lighthearted, colourful and immediately enjoyable. Being a reimagining of the first game is a solid start too, although this is intended to tie into an upcoming movie release (Yes, a Ratchet & Clank movie!) giving Insomniac and Sony a pretty hefty double-barrelled PR explosion for fans. With the competition being completely non-existent (the last platformer that got any major press was Sony's woeful Knack) it's the perfect time to make a comeback, and providing the developers stay away from the overly gung-ho approach the sequels in this series leant far too much towards, it'll be history repeating itself when this drops next year.
