Fans have been vocally mad that Gears of War 4 won't feature franchise protagonist Marcus Fenix as the player character this time around, and until Microsoft's conference, not a peep had been seen or heard from the legendary character.

Following a gameplay presentation, which again showed the player in control of Marcus' son J.D., a cut-scene has J.D. walking through a doorway before he's greeted with an aged Marcus, who says, "Welcome home, James."

Whether this means that Marucs merely has a cameo appearance or will be taking up arms later in the game, it's great to see that the franchise isn't completely neglecting the iconic hero who helped make the series what it is today, bizarre though the sight of Old Man Marcus was all the same.
