18. Project Scorpio Is Announced Almost 18 Months Before Release
To the surprise of few, Microsoft announced Project Scorpio, their super-advanced new Xbox One model that's reportedly going to be "the most powerful games console ever" upon release.
A sizzle reel showed that developers sure are excited about it, but then came the shock: the Scorpio won't be hitting stores until the ambiguous "holiday 2017" timeframe, which likely means around 18 months from now.
Major Nelson clarified that the reason for such an early announcement was for developers to get their ducks in a row, but considering how this could easily have been revealed to devs behind closed doors, it does seem rather strange.
Microsoft clearly wanted to plant their flag early as they know that Sony are working on the PS4 Neo, though hopefully for their sake it won't backfire with Sony possibly tweaking the Neo's specs before their own reveal later down the line.
