25 Best Sega Games Of All Time - RANKED
11. Revenge Of Shinobi
A direct sequel to Sega's successful arcade cabinet, Shinobi, The Revenge of Shinobi absolutely nailed the transition to home console.
One of the best games Sega has ever created, Revenge of Shinobi is a 2D, side-scrolling platformer where you play as Ninja Joe Musashi on a quest to - what else? - rescue a damsel in distress who's been kidnapped by the evil corporation Neo Zeed.
Like a lot of other Mega Drive games of the era, Revenge of Shinobi has an absolutely killer soundtrack. The gameplay is a lot of fun too; Joe can jump, double jump (with a sweet somersault thrown in for good measure), throw shurikens and use special magic powers called ninjutsu.
Revenge of Shinobi is also pretty infamous for its blatant disregard of copyright law. Throughout the game, several enemies/bosses are based on characters from across pop culture, and you'll find yourself fighting doppelgangers of Batman, Spider-Man, The Terminator, Rambo and Godzilla. Due to licensing issues, the game has been reissued multiple times with adjustments to these characters, so depending on what version you play, you may fight against a bright pink Spider-Man, a devil creature which replaces Batman, or a skeletal dinosaur instead of Godzilla.
