12. Geralt Of Rivia (The Witcher)

Geralt of Rivia is as simple a man as he is complex. He makes a living killing the nasty beasts and vermin that the average person can't, which makes for a fairly uncomplicated life. Geralt does his best to stay out of other people's affairs, but like any good person at heart, he can't help but get involved when he sees an innocent person in need.

And so Geralt finds himself drawn into the greater political machinations of his world, and in doing so is forced to confront some of the ugliest aspects of humanity. He constantly stands against the bigotry aimed against non-humans, and is often even hesitant to kill monsters if they aren't demonstrably hurting anyone.

This is not to say that Geralt hasn't done some appalling things. The life of a Witcher calls on him to do the dirty work others won't, a fact which is not lost on Geralt. However he almost always goes out of his way to help the helpless and those he cares about, making him so much greater than the average Witcher.
