Quentin Tarantino's eighth feature film looks to be a major departure from his two previous period films, produced on a more modest $44 million budget (compared to Inglourious Basterds' $75 million and Django Unchained's $100 million) and, if the original leaked script is any indication, unfolding like a play, over just a few small locations. The plot revolves around bounty hunter John "The Hangman" Ruth (Kurt Russell), who is transporting outlaw Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to the town of Red Rock to face justice, but they encounter a number of peculiar characters along the way, and as you can expect, all hell breaks loose. Joining Russell and Leigh are Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Demian Bechir, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Channing Tatum. If Tarantino's revised, final shooting script is anything like the one that leaked onto the web at the start of the year, then The Hateful Eight is going to be a brilliantly intense chamber piece, if one that might alienate more casual Tarantino fans expecting a little more action.
