After Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol reinvigorated the franchise following two hit-and-miss sequels, it came as little surprise that Paramount were keen to move forward with a fifth film, recruiting Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie to helm a script co-written by hot up-and-comer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). Little is known of the plot so far, but the majority of the film has reportedly been shot in the UK, perhaps hoping that a little of Skyfall's flavour rubs off on it. In addition to a returning Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt (duh!), Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are back in supporting roles, while Ving Rhames also reprises his Luther Stickell role after having only a cameo in Ghost Protocol. Excellent British actor Sean Harris is reportedly playing the villain, and the filmmakers have found a role for Alec Baldwin, too. With all these ingredients, it's unlikely to be worse than the second movie, so what's not to like?
