5. There's A New Nier Game...And The Director Is Insane

Nier director Yoko Taro took to the stage during Square Enix's conference to announce that PlatinumGames (Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) would be developing a new Nier game, presumed but unconfirmed to be Nier 2. The two-minute CGI trailer was merely intended to convey the game's art style, and that it certainly did, but a bigger surprise came when Taro came out wearing a creepy-a** mask of sidekick Emil from the original game. It's worth having some context here: Taro doesn't like having his picture taken, so he has a history of wearing the Emil mask and others to hide his face. Even so, there's a good chance you found the Emil mask creepy as hell if you've never played the game, and it was practically impossibly not to bust out laughing at the surreal image of Taro stood among all the Square Enix employees at the end of the show, applauding.
