5 Great (And 5 Not So Great) Stealth Video Games

3. Hitman (2016)

As it turns out, four years is long enough for a franchise to really take back the title it once held, and Hitman (2016) did just that.

Suffering a slight misstep and banging their shin on the way up the podium, Hitman suffered initial criticism by announcing that levels would be episodic. Fans took to complaining immediately, complaining of cash grabbing and an unfinished product. But once the dust had settled, it worked in favour for the final game.

Gone was any trace of Absolution's garishness, and the welcome return of nuanced, massive levels made it the creative Hitman game fans loved. It also added new opportunities in levels to not hold your hand, but to say, "Hey, why not try this route?".

IO were on top form, releasing new targets and challenges for existing missions, ensuring players wouldn't get bored or lose interest before the next level release.

Once the full game was released, IO still supported and released new content periodically, and with a reimagined Contracts multiplayer (which is probably the only welcomed feature brought over from Absolution), faith was once again restored in the franchise.
