5 PlayStation One Platformers That Deserve Modern Reboots

2. Spyro The Dragon

The Original Spyro The Dragon Now we€™re hitting up the big players. Everybody knows who the two big players are in the PlayStation One€™s platforming catalogue. If you don€™t know who€™s going to get the top spot, I don€™t know why you€™re reading this article. Inevitably, there will be people that disagree and think the number one and two titles should be swapped€but this is my article€and this is my opinion. Regardless of my position on the Crash/Spyro rivalry, I still think Spyro is an incredible game! The story of Spyro begins when the dragon elders insult the evil Gnasty Gnorc on live television. Obviously this is a stupid idea since we then find out that Gnorc is capable of casting a spell over the five dragon realms that freezes all of the dragons€except for young Spyro, a purple dragon apprentice. It€™s a pretty typical (and strange) platforming scenario. From here on out we get to play as Spyro, who must travel through all five dragon realms and unfreeze the various dragons. For some reason, after we unfreeze these ever-grateful dragon masters, not one offers to help us on our quest to save the five realms. But I€™m sure they€™ve got better things to do anyway. The gameplay is excellent with the only notable issue being the dodgy camera controls. Flying around as Spyro gives the game a new dimension that distinguishes it from other platformers such as the aforementioned three. And, of course, we are tasked with collecting various coloured gems and dragon eggs in order to satisfy our burning desire for 100%. The Potential Reboot spyro This is probably the toughest pitch of the lot. For one, Spyro is the only series in this entire list that is still being produced. The newest incarnation of Spyro is in the rather underwhelming looking Skylanders series that has reduced the character to nothing more than a playable action figure. Whatsmore, we have seen that attempts to modernise the game have been less than successful. Nobody wants another game in the vein of The Legend of Spyro. I suggest we take back the mantle that games such as A Hero€™s Tale tried to sit on. All we need to do is embrace the capabilities of new technology without ruining what made the classics great. Keep the simplicity. In this case, keep the ridiculous storylines and settings. Make it vibrant and utilise high definition graphics in doing so. This one probably won€™t fly off the shelves since we still haven€™t forgotten about the great character€but it could be a damn fine game.
