4. New Series?

One of the complaints in recent years is that Nintendo have been relying too much on their 'big series', with Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon usually categorising this term. This is a fair point; by the time New Super Mario Bros. had come out there had been two proper Marios, and not a main series side-scrolling game since Super Mario World. Since the release of New Super Mario Bros. in 2006, there have been seven, four of which were side-scrolling. The plumber is obviously one popular guy, but this fact really shows Nintendos intentions of trying to appeal to a more wide-spread market. An over-reliance on Mario can only stunt the quality of the games, with Super Mario 3D Land being one such example of a game that was rushed in terms of quality in an attempt to sell the 3DS. What would be nice is some creativity in the form of some new series. Its all well and good relying on Mario for a release of a new console but Nintendo dont want to alienate their core fans by churning out title after title and not making much effort in creating a new, quality and more hardcore game series.
