6 Biggest Gaming Industry Controversies Of The 2020s (So Far)
2. The PS5's Attempted Release
Oof. Where to begin? A next gen console release was miraculous enough, given the pandemic, but Sony's effort may prove that not all miracles are for the better…
PS5s are far and away a technical improvement over their predecessor. Gamers love 4K 60FPS resolution… or they would, if they could find a console! Supply is naturally an issue right now with an inter-continental company. So release has not been on the scale it otherwise would be, meaning customers are clamouring to get hold of the goodies
But, any stock that can be found are being bought up by scalpers with a ridiculous mark up, meaning some poor souls are forking over extra hundreds for a chance to own a PS5.
Payers are also fairly miffed over cross-gen releases.
Titles like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West were recently revealed as cross-gen releases. PS5s will understandably sport a faster framerate or tighter resolution, this is all aesthetic and is unlikely to feature any other functional differences. These exclusives were one of the biggest selling points for next-generation consoles. Until recently, we were led to believe these games would be locked to newer consoles. This is is not the case.
Gamers may be more inclined to purchase titles like these on current systems, and hang fire until more console locked content comes out.
