6 Sports With No Good Video Game In Years

1. Rugby Union

Codemasters

We have a strange relationship with Rugby Union in England. The recent World Cup in Japan put everybody on the edge of their seats for a few weeks but the sport (the country’s second most followed after football) has now drifted into the hibernation it will remain in until the return of the Six Nations in Spring. Then it will briefly return to the forefront of national attention once more.

The Welsh are somewhat more obsessed with the game, given that their dominance of it outstanding for such a small nation of people, but even their love is nothing compared to that of the Australians, South Africans and New Zealanders. It is also the fastest-growing sport in the USA.

Despite this international appreciation, you have to go back twenty two years to find the last good simulation of the sport, Jonah Lomu Rugby on PS1. One of the games that put Codemasters on the map, it was user friendly, fun for up to 4 players and boasted great mode variety, being worthy to bear the late All-Blacks legend’s name.

EA’s lazily titled Rugby series had five bites of the cherry between 2000 and 2007, but since then the only games released have been lazy world cup tie-ins and a trio of lacklustre Rugby Challenge games.

Union fans have now had slim pickings for too long. Would it be too much to ask for a Lomu HD remaster?
