7 Deadly Gaming Sins: PRIDE
1. "You Might Have Heard Of Us" - Atari
"I'm Todd from Atari, you might have heard of us."
Oh trust me Todd, I've heard of Atari. This cheeky little soundbite comes courtesy of an advert produced for Roller Coaster Tycoon which Atari wants to bring to the Switch. Sounds pretty exciting right? An old developer getting back in the game and bringing one of it's most popular titles to Nintendo's handheld joyland, what's not to love?
Well. Problem is, is that Todd here has no godly clue as to how he's coming across in this piece and that the supposed legacy of Atari that we're all meant to be impressed by and one that he takes so much pride in smugly reminding us of, is one built on lies, laziness, and a lack of integrity that is utterly shocking.
For a start let's address Todd's boast that "Atari's franchises have earned over $2 billion," while then going on to state just a few sentences later that the company needs YOUR money in order to make this RCT dream happen. It's a laughable scenario, made even funnier by the fact that Atari has basically gone bankrupt more times than I've had hot dinners, and has lost its parent companies and owners tens of millions of dollars over the years.
And of the money they DID make? Well, chunks of that were made from absolute raging swamp fires like Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 and of course the infamous E.T, both of which sold really well but ended up gutting the entire gaming market. For a video to trade on such a terrible legacy with pride is hilarious and downright shocking.
