7 Main Take-Aways About Anthem From EA's E3 Conference

5. The Living Ecosystem

Anthem is billing itself as an open-world game, so naturally that world is one of its main draws.

Close attention was paid to reaper storms, big in-game events that alter the world both in terms of story and geography. An early gameplay teaser showed a group of players gearing up to enter one - perhaps they could function like raid bosses in an MMO.

Most of what we see in the gameplay trailer is green forests, with a dash of dark cave and city hub thrown in. This doesn't reflect the chaotic world the developers and trailer narration talk about, but it's likely Bioware are only showing the tip of the iceberg at the moment.

In the landscapes shown in various trailers, it can be seen that there are plenty of animals about. From rabbit-like creatures to birds and larger mammals, the world is a living and breathing ecosystem. It seems very similar to Monster Hunter World in this respect, with the animals included to add realism rather than to be a part of gameplay.

Exploring ruins is also an important part of the stories and gameplay of both of the prior Bioware games, and this is probably where the 'chaos' of the world will be shown. We can expect Anthem to feature a heavy amount of digging through the back-story of this world.

I'm based in the UK, looking to make a career out of writing about entertainment and culture. The only thing I like as much as watching films, playing games or listening to music is enjoying as much hummus and crisps as I can while I do so. My favourite film is Eddie the Eagle and I like any game that lets me wander around beautiful worlds (or eat hummus and crisps).
