7 Pointless Video Game Characters (Who Were Actually CRUCIAL)
6. Brentilda (Banjo-Kazooie)
For reasons which should probably be better explored on a sorority crone-themed episode of the Jeremy Kyle show, Brentilda, the benevolent fairy godmother sister of Banjo-Kazooie's wicked witch Gruntilda, likes to hang about in dank corners of the hag's lair, doling out obscure personal tidbits about her sis.
In a game entirely about collecting stupid shiny tat with stupid googly eyes, that big Brent doesn't hand the bear any additional junk to lug around suggests she's nothing more than a bit of irrelevant, ahem, 'world building'.
Turns out, she isn't. You'd best have been jotting down all those seemingly banal Grunty facts; they weren't just excuses for terrible, terrible puns, but in actual fact the answers to questions in the game's somewhat inspired quiz show finale.
Designer Gregg Mayles later described Brentilda as his "least favourite character", and her arcane yet crucial hint giving as "one of the worst pieces of design I ever created".
