Balancing how a console uses it's RAM is a delicate matter; you want gamers to have the best possible experience with performance, but you also need them to have plenty of storage on the system for games, DLC, data, and other applications.

The Xbox One X has tackled this by having 12GB of RAM, compared to the PS4 Pro's 8GB. Microsoft have utilised this by having 9GB dedicated completely to running games, with the remaining 3GB being reserved for the console's operating system and other, non-gaming functions.
