Right, not to throw a spanner in the works of your grip on reality, but there's a chance that we're living in a simulation, and No Man's Sky is just another nail in the virtual coffin as far as some people are concerned.

It might seem like a bit of sci-fi mumbo jumbo - and perhaps it is - but there is actually some logic behind the assertion. The release of NMS is a demonstration of our interest as a species in creating virtual universes, and if we are currently able to create self-generating universes with literally quintillions of planets, how long is it before we can create completely immersive ones?

What if this has already happened?

If creating virtual universes is an inevitability of a technological society then, as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk asserts, it is perhaps even a virtual inevitability that we are already living in a virtual reality.
