7 World War I Video Games You Should Definitely Play
2. Battlefield One
Where Call of Duty has been left in the cold due to its glaring omission of the Great War from its library, DICE bravely stepped up and attempted a recreation of World War One with all the splendour that comes from a triple-A development budget.
Using the Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield One is gorgeous as it takes a journey from the tank engagements at Cambrai down south to Gallipoli in its War Stories, reflecting a different aspect of the war in each storyline.
The sounds of gunfire from the ground hit hard, and the intensity of new aerial battles in biplanes is a rewarding feature not atypical of DICE's previous Battlefield titles now wonderfully rendered in a First World War setting. The multiplayer is fun too, providing a range of gameplay options for those wanting to snipe or just throw themselves into the fray of a big push to an objective.
There's a few surprises in One as well. It covers the ANZACs, a usually brushed over aspect of the conflict, and deals with the Bedouin tribes in the Gallipoli story. Big props to the devs for daring to cover the more forgotten aspects of the Great War in a mainstream title.
