8 "Useless" Video Game Items That Were Secretly GAME-BREAKERS

2. Funny Slayer - Star Ocean: The Second Story

Players who bother to complete Star Ocean: The Second Story's sidequest involving Raddle the Traveler will be "rewarded" with a "weapon" by the name of the Funny Slayer.

The Funny Slayer is functionally useless during conventional combat, but here's the rub - it'll instantly kill any enemy with the word "Funny" in their name.

But given that most of the Funny enemies you'll encounter throughout the game are ultra-trivial, low-level Funny Thiefs, that still seems scarcely worthwhile, right?

That is, unless you pay a visit to the tricky bonus dungeon, the Cave of Trials, where you'll eventually be faced with considerably tougher Funny foes, including a level 99 Funny Thief boss.

At this point a glorified joke of a weapon is transformed into something awesome and empowering, helping trivialise an otherwise extremely challenging part of the game and making any late-game level-grinding a bit less of a slog.
